Dream meaning Dreaming of a sword

A sword in a dream is authority and power, a son or a helper who gives the dreamer strength, and a decisive word, the proof that cuts through an argument. Carrying a sword or girding oneself with it is a position entrusted, a responsibility taken up, or protection; being handed a sword by a person of standing is authority or support coming from them, and for many it is a blessing in children.

Drawing the sword is speaking out or entering a matter with resolve; returning it to its sheath is a dispute set down or strength held in reserve. A sword raised against the dreamer is an enemy's hostility or harsh words aimed at them, and escaping its blow is safety from that harm. Two people fighting with swords are two sides in a dispute, and the one whose blade prevails is the one whose case prevails.

A broken sword is authority weakened, a helper's support lost, or a worry touching the one the sword stands for. The Prophet's own dream before Uhud is the key: he saw that he shook a sword and its blade broke, which was the hardship the believers met, then shook it again and it became better than before, which was the victory and the gathering God brought after.

A rusty or blunt sword is strength neglected; a gleaming one, strength ready and in good order. In Islamic memory Dhu al-Fiqar, the sword the Prophet gave to Ali, stands for courage in the cause of right.
