Dream meaning Dreaming of a scorpion

A scorpion in a dream comes out from where it was hidden, under a shoe, in a sleeve or in the sand, and it brings hidden hostility, painful words and the sting of betrayal. Whether it stings, watches or is killed shapes the reading, and so does where you find it.

The interpreters know the scorpion as a weak enemy with a sharp tongue, someone who wounds with slander: being stung is harm through words, and killing a scorpion is victory over such a person. The Prophet allowed a scorpion to be killed even during prayer.

When a tribal chief was stung, one of the Companions recited the Fatiha over him and he recovered, a story treasured as a sign that healing can come through the word of God. Jesus told his disciples they would tread on serpents and scorpions unharmed. The brightest star of the constellation Scorpius still carries its Arabic name, Antares, the heart of the scorpion.

A scorpion hidden in a shoe, a sleeve or a bed is an enemy of this kind close to you, in a place you trust; a sting is harm that reaches you through words, whether slander, a report or a sharp tongue. Killing the scorpion is victory over that person and the end of the harm; a scorpion that only watches is hostility that has not yet acted, and the dream is warning you in time.

Many scorpions are many small enemies, or gossip that spreads, and a scorpion on your own body is harm that has come near. A scorpion revealed by light is a hidden enemy exposed.

Against what the scorpion stands for the tradition gives protection, not suspicion of everyone: the Fatiha recited as the Companion recited it, the morning and evening remembrances, and seeking refuge in God's perfect words from the evil of what He created. The dream is never grounds for accusing anyone.

Spiritual meaning of a scorpion in a dream

The scorpion carries its weapon behind it, curled over its back, and strikes from where it was not watched. That is the whole of its spiritual meaning: harm that comes from behind, from a hidden place, often from close by. A scorpion dream is a warning given before the sting, so that you guard your words, your secrets and your circle. It is not a sentence. The dream that shows you the scorpion is already your protection, because what is seen can be avoided.

Islamic interpretation of the scorpion (Ibn Sirin)

In the dream books attributed to Ibn Sirin, the scorpion is a slanderer, a man who carries tales between people and wounds with his tongue, and an enemy often found close to home. Killing it is overcoming such a person; a scorpion in the dreamer's clothes or bed is an enemy who lives within reach. Eating its meat, raw or cooked, is money gained from an enemy.

The Prophet named the scorpion among the creatures that may be killed even within the sacred precinct, and allowed it to be killed during prayer. When he was stung while praying, he called for water and salt, rubbed them on the sting and recited chapters of the Qur'an over it, among them the two of refuge. The scorpion dream carries its answer within the tradition: protection through recitation, and harm cut off firmly once it shows itself.

Biblical meaning of scorpions in dreams

The Bible places scorpions in the wilderness Israel crossed, beside fiery serpents and thirst, so a scorpion in a dry place is a test on the road that God brings you through. When Ezekiel was sent to a hard people he was told not to fear though he lived among scorpions, and not to be afraid of their words: in scripture, as in the Islamic reading, the scorpion and the wounding word belong together.

Rehoboam threatened to chastise his people with scorpions where his father had used whips, so a scorpion in the hand of someone in authority is harsh rule. Jesus gave his disciples power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and asked which father would hand his child a scorpion when asked for an egg: a scorpion offered in place of a gift is deceit dressed as kindness.

Scorpion dreams in psychology: Jung and Freud

Jungian readers take the scorpion as a shadow figure: an armoured, defensive part of oneself that strikes when cornered, or a resentment held so long it has grown a sting. Seeing it clearly is the first step to disarming it. Freud held that anxiety in dreams comes when a repressed impulse breaks through the dream's disguise, and a Freudian reading of the scorpion looks for anger the dreamer will not admit. Both agree with the tradition that the danger is hidden and that the dream drags it into the light.

Being stung by a scorpion in a dream

The sting is the wounding word arriving: a rumour, a report carried to someone whose opinion matters, a remark meant to wound. A sting on the hand touches your work and earnings; on the foot, your path and plans; on the back, a betrayal by someone you trusted enough not to watch. Being stung and feeling no pain is harm attempted that does not take hold. Drawing out the poison, or reciting over the sting, is protection that comes through prayer and quick action. Seeing someone else stung is a warning for them that has reached you, and a sign that you can help.

Killing a scorpion in a dream

Killing a scorpion is among the best forms of the dream: victory over a slanderer, the end of gossip, a scheme exposed and stopped. Crushing it under your shoe is defeating the harm through your own firmness; killing it with a stick or a tool is victory with someone's help. Burning it is harm ended completely. A scorpion that keeps returning after you have killed it is an enemy who comes back, and the dream asks for protection through remembrance, not only through the fight.

A scorpion in the house, the bed or the clothes

Where the scorpion hides is where the enemy stands. In the house it is hostility within the household or among those who visit it; in the bed it touches the marriage and the closest bond; in clothes, shoes or a pocket, someone involved in your daily business. A scorpion among food is harm that touches your provision, and one in a child's room calls for protection over the children.

A house full of scorpions, with heaviness and bad dreams night after night, is read as the eye or sihr at work in the home, and ruqya lifts it.

Black, yellow, red and white scorpions

A black scorpion is the strongest form of the enemy, and interpreters link the colour with deep hostility and with sihr. A yellow scorpion is envy and the evil eye, harm born of someone resenting your blessings. A red scorpion is hostility fed by anger, often in a quarrel that has already flared. A white scorpion is a weak enemy who comes dressed as a friend. A small scorpion is a minor enemy; a giant one is great harm, shown to you in time to guard against it.

Many scorpions, or a scorpion chasing you

A swarm of scorpions is a crowd of petty adversaries, or talk passing from mouth to mouth within one circle. Scorpions coming out of the walls are hostility that was hidden in your surroundings and is now revealed. A scorpion chasing you is harm in pursuit; escaping it is safety, and turning to kill it is courage rewarded. Scorpions that walk around you without touching you are enemies held back by protection you already have: your prayer, your remembrance, your charity.

Scorpion dream for a woman and a pregnant woman

For a woman, a scorpion is most often a rival or someone speaking against her, and a scorpion in her bed or near her husband is a person trying to come between them. Killing it is the end of that interference.

For a pregnant woman, a scorpion is envy gathered around her blessing, and the dream asks her to keep her news close and recite the protections over herself and her child. A scorpion that does not sting is that envy held back. The dream speaks of the eye and of protection, never of harm to the child.

Scorpion dream for a man and a single person

For a man, a scorpion is a rival at work or a man who undermines him behind his back, and a sting on the hand is harm aimed at his earnings. Killing it is winning that contest with dignity. For a single person, a scorpion near a suitor or a new friend is a warning about that person's tongue or intentions, and the dream asks for istikhara before going further. A scorpion leaving the house of a single person is an obstacle to marriage removed.

Questions people ask

What does it mean when a scorpion stings you in a dream?

It is harm through words: slander, a report or a hurtful remark, often from someone close. Feeling no pain means the harm will not take hold, and reciting over the sting is protection.

Is killing a scorpion in a dream good?

Yes. It is victory over a slanderer or a hidden enemy, and the harm stops there. A scorpion that returns after being killed asks for steady protection through remembrance.

What does a black scorpion mean in a dream?

It is the strongest form of the hidden enemy, the colour interpreters link with deep hostility and sihr. If it returns night after night with heaviness in the house, ruqya lifts it.

What is the biblical meaning of a scorpion in a dream?

In scripture scorpions stand for the wilderness test, harsh rule and wounding words, as when Ezekiel is told not to fear the scorpions around him or their words. Treading on one is the authority over harm that Jesus gave his disciples.

What does a yellow scorpion mean in a dream?

It is envy and the evil eye, harm born of someone resenting your blessings. Its answer is the protections recited morning and evening.

Does a scorpion dream mean someone close is betraying me?
