Dream meaning Dreaming of a prison cell

A prison cell in a dream closes the world down to four walls, and the reading begins with how you came to be there. The image is confinement, outer or inner, and the freedom that waits on the far side of the door. Islamic tradition treats the cell with surprising depth.

Joseph chose prison over wrongdoing, saying, "My Lord, prison is dearer to me than what they call me to," and it was in prison that he interpreted the dreams of his two fellow inmates. The interpreters follow that example: a cell is hardship and delay, yet also protection from a greater harm, and being released from prison in a dream is release from worry, debt or sin.

The Prophet's saying that this world is the believer's prison adds another layer, and in its light a cell is also a discipline you have accepted for the sake of something higher. An unjust imprisonment is blame carried on someone else's behalf, and Joseph's story says how it ends; a cell whose door stands open is a restriction that is already lifting.

Visiting someone in prison is loyalty and help owed to a person in difficulty. Praying in the cell is patience that brings release, as it did for Joseph.
