Dream meaning Dreaming of adoption

Adoption in a dream touches one of the oldest questions: who claims you, and whom do you claim? Your place in the story matters, whether adopted, adopting, searching for a birth family or welcomed into a new one, and so does whether it felt like belonging or loss. Sacred stories are full of children raised by other hands.

The wife of Pharaoh drew the infant Moses from the river and said: he will be a comfort to my eyes and yours; perhaps we will take him as a son. The Prophet, himself an orphan, said that the one who cares for an orphan will be as close to him in Paradise as two fingers of one hand. Islamic law honours that care as kafala, guardianship that keeps a child's own lineage and name.

In the Shahnameh, the hero Zal, abandoned as a baby, is raised by the Simorgh on Mount Alborz, and it is a dream that sends his remorseful father to bring him home. Dreaming you are adopted is a new belonging that is coming: a household, a teacher, a community that will claim you. Adopting a child is taking on the care of someone or something that needs you, and the Prophet's promise is on it.

Searching for birth parents is seeking your roots, and finding them is recovering something that was yours. Being welcomed into a family is acceptance and honour among people; being given back is a closeness withheld for a time, and the dream counsels asking plainly for what is due to you.

Those who were adopted, or who have adopted, often dream these scenes with real grief and real hope, and both belong to the reading. An orphan in your house in a dream is a blessing entering it.
