Moving house in a dream is a change of state, and the two houses tell which way it turns. Moving from a narrow, dark or crumbling house into a wide and bright one is relief after hardship, a provision that widens, a better position or a household that settles; for one who is single it is often marriage, and for one in debt, ease.

Moving from a spacious house into a narrow one is a straitened season, a burden taken on or a standing reduced for a time. A new house that stands empty is a beginning still to be furnished: a work, a marriage or a home to be built up with effort; a new house full of light, with people who welcome the dreamer, is a new circle of good company.

Returning to an old house is returning to an earlier state, a former place of work, a family bond or an old matter reopened. Being driven out of a house is a dispute, a claim or pressure from an authority, and the dreamer should guard their rights; packing belongings is a journey or a change being prepared, and losing something on the way is a loss in that change which care can prevent.

The Prophet saw in a dream that he was emigrating from Mecca to a land of palm trees; he first thought it was al-Yamama or Hajar, and it was Medina. So a dream of moving sometimes shows a real move whose place becomes clear only later. When the dream presses on a real decision about moving, the answer is the istikhara prayer before acting.
