Dream meaning Dreaming of being rescued

A rescue in a dream arrives at the edge of disaster: a hand, a rope, a stranger pulling you back. It brings hope and help, and with them either the humility of being saved or the responsibility of saving. Ask who rescued whom, whether help came in time, and whether you took it. Sacred stories are full of rescues.

Joseph, thrown into a well by his brothers, was drawn out by a passing caravan whose water-drawer let down his bucket and cried: good news, here is a boy. Moses, a fugitive himself, watered the flock of two women at a well and then prayed that he was in need of whatever good God sent him.

The Prophet taught that God helps a servant as long as the servant helps his brother, and that whoever relieves a believer's hardship will be relieved on the Day of Judgement. Jesus told of the Samaritan who stopped for the wounded man that others passed by. Lifeguards know that real drowning is often silent, with no strength left to wave.

Being rescued is relief that comes, often through a person you did not expect, as the caravan came to Joseph's well; accepting the hand is part of the good. Rescuing someone is help you will give, with its reward, as the hadith promises. Failing to reach someone in the dream is a help that is delayed, or a duty to be tried again.

A stranger as rescuer is support from an unexpected quarter; saving yourself is God's help through your own effort. Being rescued from water is among the strongest images of deliverance in the interpreters' vocabulary.
