Dream meaning Dreaming of pearls

A pearl in a dream is a small, luminous thing made slowly in the dark, the image of patience and wisdom, and of beauty that grows out of hurt. How the pearl appears decides the reading: found in a shell, strung on a thread, scattered, given or lost.

Oysters make pearls by coating an irritant, most often a tiny parasite or an injury to their tissue, with layer upon layer of nacre; the popular grain of sand is rarely the cause. The Qur'an says that pearls and coral come forth from the two seas, and describes the people of Paradise as like hidden pearls and scattered pearls.

In Jesus' parable, a merchant sells all he has to buy one pearl of great price, an image of the kingdom of heaven. Saadi tells of a raindrop that felt ashamed of its smallness before the sea; because it saw itself humbly, a shell took it in and nursed it into a royal pearl. For the interpreters strung pearls are the Qur'an and knowledge, and piercing a pearl cleanly is interpreting the Qur'an rightly.

Finding a pearl in a shell is knowledge or a good thing reached through patience, sometimes through a hardship that produced it; opening a shell and finding it whole is patience rewarded. A string of pearls is knowledge held in order, or a family held together; a broken string with pearls scattering is knowledge or company scattered, or tears, and gathering them again is repair.

Receiving a pearl is a gift of knowledge or love, and giving one is teaching; a false pearl is something that looks like wisdom and is not.
