Dream meaning Dreaming of a crocodile

A crocodile in a dream lies at the edge of water, eyes and nostrils above the surface and its body hidden below, and it carries ancient power and patient danger. Notice whether it waits or attacks, how clearly you see it, and whether you escape, fight or tame it. Few animals carry so long a memory: the crocodile's lineage reaches back to the age of dinosaurs.

Egyptians worshipped Sobek, the crocodile-headed god of the Nile's fertility and strength, at temples such as Kom Ombo, and the Leviathan of the Book of Job, whose scales no weapon can pierce, is often identified with the crocodile. Classical Muslim interpreters read the crocodile as a treacherous enemy or a powerful man who cannot be trusted, and hauling one onto dry land as victory over an opponent.

A crocodile waiting with only its eyes above the water is an untrustworthy person or a danger you sense without yet seeing its full size, and the dream is telling you to be careful whom you trust in that matter. Being attacked is harm from a powerful opponent; escaping it is being saved from that harm; hauling it onto dry land, as the interpreters read, is victory over the opponent.

Taming or riding a crocodile is mastery over someone who was dangerous to you. A small crocodile is a small enemy who will grow stronger if ignored. Tears on a crocodile's face, the crocodile tears known in five languages, are false sympathy from someone who means you harm.

Take the dream as a call for care, never as an accusation against a named person, and guard your affairs with the morning and evening remembrances.
