Guidance held with care, insight without haste

Dream meaning Dreaming of a bird's nest

A nesting dream, whether you build a nest, find one or guard its eggs, is about home, family and the vulnerable centre of a life: the place you prepare for what is coming and try to keep safe. What the nest holds and how secure it is both matter, and so does whether it is being built, protected or left empty. Nests carry tenderness in sacred texts.

The Psalms rejoice that the sparrow has found a house and the swallow a nest near God's altar. A companion once took the chicks from a bird's nest, and when the mother circled in distress, the Prophet asked who had grieved her by taking her young, and told them to return them. The Qur'an, by contrast, calls the spider's house the frailest of houses.

The story of the Hijra tells of a spider's web and a dove's nest at the mouth of the cave where the Prophet hid, so that his pursuers passed by. Building a nest is a good sign: preparation for a household, a move, a marriage or a new work that is on its way; finding eggs is beginnings full of promise that need care.

A fallen nest or broken eggs are a plan or a beginning to guard more closely while it is still yours to guard. An empty nest is a household quiet after its young have gone, or a place prepared that is waiting. Defending the nest is protecting your family.

A strange egg in your nest is something placed among your affairs that is not yours, the way cuckoos leave their eggs for others to raise; look at it before you raise it.
