Guidance held with care, insight without haste

Dream meaning Dreaming of a map

A map in a dream lays the world flat so that it can be read. It arrives when you want to know where you stand and how to reach what you are aiming for, and it reminds you that every chart is drawn by someone who chose what to show. A clear map in your hands is guidance: a plan is taking shape and the route is visible.

A map that changes as you look at it, or roads that contradict the land, is a matter whose terms keep shifting, and the dream counsels asking before you travel further: the istikhara, and people who know the road. Struggling to read the map is guidance offered that you will need help to understand.

Finding your own name or house on a map is a secure place among people; tearing a map up is leaving a path that was laid out for you. Muslim geographers once made some of the finest maps of the known world, and al-Idrisi's twelfth-century map for King Roger of Sicily placed south at the top. A dream map, too, follows its own orientation, not the one on the maps you were given.
