Guidance held with care, insight without haste

Dream meaning Dreaming of lightning

Lightning in a dream is fear and hope together, for the Qur'an says, "It is He who shows you the lightning, in fear and in hope, and raises the heavy clouds." A flash followed by rain is a sudden good: news that arrives quickly, a provision that follows a fright, a threat that turns to mercy. A flash with no rain is a promise that does not deliver, what the Arabs called deceiving lightning.

Lightning that lights the dreamer's road for an instant is a brief guidance to be used while it lasts, and walking forward in its light is taking an opportunity that will not wait.

Lightning striking near the dreamer is a warning from an authority or a sudden trial that passes close, and being unharmed is safety from it; lightning striking a house or a tree is a sudden hardship reaching a household or a person of standing, to be met with patience, charity and prayer. Lightning in a clear sky is news that comes without warning.

Thunder with it is a command or a warning heard by many; the Qur'an says the thunder glorifies God with His praise, and the angels too, in awe of Him. Being frightened by lightning and then seeing the sky clear is fear followed by relief. Lightning seen far off over another land is news from afar.

Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr would stop speaking when he heard thunder and say, "Glory be to the One whom the thunder glorifies with His praise, and the angels in awe of Him." The same words answer a dream of lightning.
