Dream meaning Dreaming of chains

Where a chain binds in a dream tells what it means. The early Muslims, as al-Bukhari records, liked the fetter and disliked the iron collar in dreams, saying that the fetter is steadfastness in religion. So a chain or fetter on the feet is holding firm to faith, to a duty or to a place the dreamer should not leave, and for a traveller it is a journey delayed.

A collar or chain around the neck is a debt, a sin or an obligation that weighs the dreamer down, and the Qur'an speaks of collars reaching up to the chins of those who turned away; being freed from it is repentance accepted or a debt lifted.

Hands chained to the neck are a hand held back, either by stinginess, for the Qur'an says, "Do not make your hand chained to your neck, nor stretch it out entirely," or from wrongdoing. Breaking a chain is release from a confinement, a debt or a hardship; being unchained by another is relief that comes through them.

A chain of gold or silver worn as an ornament is honour and adornment, especially for a woman, while an iron chain is a burden or a restraint. A long chain linking many people is a lineage, a bond of kin or a line of authority, and pulling on it is calling on those ties. Being led by a chain is being under someone's command, willingly or not. A rusted chain is an old tie or an old debt that has not been cleared.
