Guidance held with care, insight without haste

Dream meaning Dreaming of growing old

To see yourself grow old in a dream is, before anything else, dignity: the first man to see grey hair in his beard was Abraham, and when he asked his Lord what it was, he was told that it was dignity, and he prayed, "Lord, increase me in dignity."

So grey hair appearing in a dream is honour, standing, knowledge and long life; for a young person, seeing oneself as an elder is wisdom and responsibility arriving sooner than expected. The Prophet said that whoever grows grey in Islam, it will be a light for them on the Day of Resurrection.

Age that comes with weakness and fatigue, with a bent back, a stick and failing strength, is a hardship or a debt that has made the dreamer weary, and it asks for rest, help and the lightening of what they carry; the Qur'an describes the stages God appoints, weakness, then strength, then weakness and grey hair, and each stage has its provision.

Seeing one's face in the mirror suddenly aged is a worry that has marked the dreamer, to be lifted with prayer and trust. Becoming young again is a matter renewed, strength returning or an old hope revived. Dyeing grey hair with henna is honour adorned; hiding it anxiously is concealing a matter the dreamer should carry with dignity.

Seeing a parent or a spouse grow old is long life and companionship with them, never news of their end. Zechariah, his head aflame with grey, still called on his Lord and said he had never been disappointed in calling on Him. A dream of age is a call to pray without fearing the years.
