Guidance held with care, insight without haste

Dream meaning Dreaming of a robot

A robot in a dream is a figure made in our image and emptied of something essential: it moves, speaks and works, yet its gestures come from a program. Dreams of robots are read on that emptiness: work done without intention, a servant or a tool, and the old question of what makes a person more than a mechanism.

Seeing yourself as a robot is work or worship done without intention, and the hadith that deeds are by intentions is its answer. Being served or helped by a robot is work becoming easier, and a warning not to hand too much of your judgement to systems.

A robot that turns against its makers is a tool, a servant or an arrangement turning against the one who relied on it; a robot that begins to weep or pray is a routine coming alive with intention. Repairing a robot is a sign that a stalled project or a mechanical relationship can be brought back to life with care.

Long before modern machines, al-Jazari completed around 1206 his Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices, full of automata that moved by themselves, and Jewish legend spoke of the golem, a clay figure stirred by a sacred word. Both place the same line before the dreamer: a made thing moves, and the soul belongs to its Creator.
