Dream meaning Dreaming of a hug

An embrace in a dream wraps the body in what words could not hold: comfort, longing, reconciliation, or sometimes a closeness that crowds. It matters who holds you, whether you chose the embrace, and how it felt: safe, sad or suffocating. Embraces mark homecomings in scripture.

When Joseph's family reached Egypt, the Qur'an says he drew his parents close to him, and Genesis tells how he fell on his father's neck and wept. In Jesus' parable, a father runs to embrace the son who had squandered everything. When Ja'far ibn Abi Talib returned from Abyssinia, the Prophet embraced him and said he hardly knew which gladdened him more, Ja'far's return or the victory at Khaybar.

The Qur'an calls spouses garments for one another, a closeness that covers and protects. Most often an embrace is affection and closeness, the return of someone absent, or relief from worry. Embracing someone you love is closeness that lasts, or a reunion coming; embracing someone you are estranged from is reconciliation on its way.

Being held by someone who has died is a bond that continues, and the dead are answered with prayer and charity in their name. Embracing a stranger is benefit from a new friendship. An embrace that crowds or suffocates is a closeness that will cost you something, and pulling away is keeping a boundary that is yours to keep.
