Dream meaning Dreaming of wine

The interpreters read wine in a dream through the ruling on it. Because wine is forbidden, drinking it is most often wealth or pleasure taken from an unlawful source, a fitna that clouds judgement, or a power that goes to the head, and the dream warns while there is time to turn back.

Drinking wine and becoming drunk is being carried away by the world, by anger or by authority; being drunk without having drunk is fear or bewilderment, as the Qur'an describes people on the Last Day as seeming drunk though they are not drunk.

Refusing wine that is offered is protection from a temptation and a sin avoided, and pouring it away is repentance and a clean break; pouring wine for others is drawing people toward something harmful, unless one is a servant pouring for a master, when it is service restored, as with Joseph's fellow prisoner.

Wine drunk in Paradise, from rivers the Qur'an describes as delicious to those who drink and bringing no headache, is joy and reward for one who kept away from it in this life. The Sufis took wine as the language of divine love: Ibn al-Farid sang of a wine drunk in remembrance of the Beloved before the vine was ever created, and Hafez's cupbearer pours the knowledge that intoxicates the heart.

For one on that path, a pure wine in a holy gathering, with no loss of reason, is love and unveiling. A broken wine jar is a forbidden gain that comes to nothing.
