Dream meaning Dreaming of surgery

A surgery dream puts you on the operating table, or beside it: bright lights, a mask, the moment of letting go under anaesthesia, hands working where you cannot see. Its subject is controlled change, something removed, repaired or implanted, and the trust it takes when other hands must carry the change out. Surgery has an honoured history in Islamic civilisation.

Al-Zahrawi, the surgeon of Córdoba known in Europe as Abulcasis, wrote an illustrated manual of instruments and operations that was studied for centuries. Classical interpreters read the parts of the body as parts of one's life; a hand, for instance, is a brother, a friend or a partner. On that map an operation is the removal of a harm, or a difficult cure that leads to ease.

Something taken out of your body is a harm removed, whether an enemy, a debt or a painful attachment; something placed in is a new responsibility or a benefit given. Waking up during the operation is a matter you will witness while it is being settled, and the dream tells you to let trustworthy hands finish it. Operating on someone else is a call to cut cleanly through a problem for them, with skill and gentleness.

A scar left afterward is the mark of a change completed. If a real operation lies ahead, pray for the hands that will care for you.
