A letter in a dream is news, and its sender, its seal and its words tell what news and from where. A letter from a known person is word from them or about them; from a person of authority it is a charge, an appointment or a matter decided, as its contents show; from someone far away, news crossing a distance.

A letter brought by a bird is news from afar, as the hoopoe carried Solomon's letter to the Queen of Sheba, who called it a noble letter because it opened with the name of God. A sealed letter is news still guarded, and breaking the seal is its disclosure; a letter in a clear hand is a matter made plain, while one that cannot be read is news whose meaning has not yet reached the dreamer.

Opening a letter with joy is glad tidings; a letter that grieves is a worry that arrives through word from others and passes.
