Dream meaning Dreaming of a dove

The dove comes into a dream carrying the oldest message of relief. In the flood story, Noah releases a dove that returns with an olive leaf, and that small branch has meant peace after catastrophe ever since. In the Gospels the Spirit descends like a dove at the baptism of Jesus, so Christian readers see in the bird the touch of grace.

Muslim tradition keeps its own tenderness for doves: the pair said to have nested at the mouth of the cave of Thawr, hiding the Prophet on the night of the migration, is still a story told to children, and the doves of Mecca are left in peace. Interpreters read a dove as good news, a faithful woman, a loyal friend or a message on its way.

A dove landing on your hand or your roof announces tidings you will be glad to receive; a flock of white doves speaks of blessing spreading through a family. A dove that flies away marks a letter sent or a loved one travelling, and an injured dove asks for gentleness toward someone fragile near you. Listen for its call in the dream.

Arab and Persian poets heard the dove's low cooing as a lament of longing, and in sleep it often points to a person whose absence you feel. Send a greeting of peace to the one it brought to mind.
