Dream meaning Dreaming of giving birth

Giving birth in a dream, for a man or a woman, young or old, is relief after distress: something carried for a long time is set down, a hardship ends, a debt is paid or a matter reaches its completion.

The Qur'an says that a mother carries her child with hardship and gives birth with hardship, and that with hardship comes ease; so an easy birth is ease in the matter, and a long, hard labour is a difficulty to be passed through before the relief it is carrying.

When the pains of labour drove Mary to the trunk of a palm tree, she was told not to grieve, that a stream ran beneath her, and to shake the palm so that ripe dates would fall: the tradition's own picture of provision given in the middle of the hardest hour. A midwife who helps is a helper who eases a difficult affair; cutting the cord is independence from a matter or a person that held the dreamer.

What is born tells more: the classical books read a newborn boy as a charge and a newborn girl as relief, twins as a matter doubled, and a strange or unexpected newborn as a result unlike what the dreamer imagined, to be welcomed before it is judged. Watching another person give birth is relief reaching them, or the dreamer's part in easing it.

The dream announces no pregnancy and no birth, and for those who are expecting, dreams of labour come often and carry no ill omen. A birth that does not come to term in the dream is a matter that did not complete, and it asks for patience and renewed effort.
