Dream meaning Dreaming of salt

Salt in a dream is the blessing that keeps things sound: provision that preserves, contentment with little, and the bond between people who have shared bread and salt. Salt in its right measure in food is provision with blessing and a life kept wholesome; eating bread with salt alone is contentment and a modest provision that is enough.

Too much salt, so that the food cannot be eaten, is a hardship or a harsh word that spoils what was good; salt spilled on the ground is a quarrel or a loss through carelessness, and gathering it up is a matter repaired. Sharing salt with someone is a covenant of friendship and hospitality.

In Arabic, Persian and Turkish alike one speaks of the right of bread and salt, and betraying those whose salt one has eaten is counted among the worst betrayals. Salt poured on a wound is a pain that cleans as it stings, a correction that hurts before it heals. White, clean salt is a pure provision; dirty or clumped salt, a gain mixed with something that needs sifting.

A land turned to salt, where nothing grows, is a place of hardship or a matter that has become barren. The Qur'an describes two seas, one sweet and one salt and bitter, and says that from each of them come fresh food and ornaments to wear, so even salt water in a dream brings its provision to the one who works it.

The Bible remembers Lot's wife, turned to a pillar of salt when she looked back at what she had been told to leave.
