Guidance held with care, insight without haste

Dream meaning Dreaming of a forest

A forest in a dream closes around you where light thins and paths multiply. It is a place of depth, disorientation and initiation, and the reading follows whether you are lost or on a path, whether the woods shelter or threaten, and what you find in the clearing. Stories begin in forests. Dante opens the Divine Comedy midway through life's journey, lost in a dark wood, before the long ascent begins.

Fairy tales send children into the woods, Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel and Gretel among them, to meet danger and come back changed. In Hindu tradition, the third stage of life is that of the forest dweller, who withdraws from household duties to seek what lasts. The Qur'an remembers the Companions of the Thicket, a people who cheated in weight and measure and ignored their prophet Shu'ayb.

Trees are people to the interpreters, so a forest is a community, a gathering or an army, and the dream is read among people. Being lost in a forest is being lost among people or affairs you cannot see through, and finding a path is guidance that appears; a sunlit clearing is ease after confusion and a matter becoming plain.

A dense, dark wood is a crowd whose intentions are hidden from you, and the dream counsels care and protection rather than suspicion of anyone. A cabin among the trees is shelter in a hard season. Felling trees is a loss among people, or clearing space for something new; a forest on fire is a trial that spreads through a community, to be met with prayer.

Remember the Companions of the Thicket: a forest of people is also a place where fair dealing is tested.
